Shalom Early
Childhood Center

Shalom Early Childhood Center was established in 2006 by a group of passionate community leaders, under the auspices of UMJCA. These leaders shared a vision to create a prominent Sephardic preschool that would meet the growing needs of the community. In its inaugural year, Shalom opened its doors in a beautiful, state-of-the- art facility, welcoming 40 children ages 2 to 4. Under the leadership of its first director, Irene Dicker, the preschool quickly became a beloved institution, known for its warmth, exceptional staff, thoughtful organization, and a balanced curriculum that combined both Judaic and General Studies. As demand for enrollment grew year after year, the school expanded, with ongoing renovations to accommodate new classrooms and provide even more opportunities for young learners.

In 2017, Irene Dicker retired leaving behind an everlasting legacy. Mona Dilamani, a devoted long-time teacher and staff member, was appointed as the new Director. Under her guidance, Shalom’s innovative programming, curriculum and unwavering commitment to Torah values flourished and reached new heights. In 2022, Shalom proudly opened its second campus, further extending its reach and enhancing its ability to serve the community. Today, Shalom Early Childhood Center proudly educates nearly 180 children across two campuses. Licensed by the Office of Family and Children Services through New York State, Shalom continues to provide a nurturing, enriching environment where young minds thrive and grow, all while maintaining its commitment to excellence in education and Torah values. By 2023, the success of Shalom inspired the birth of UMJCA’s first elementary school: Magen Ephraim Sephardic Academy.
